Ghazipur (UP), April 9 Two women were killed and several others were injured after a tourist bus overturned on the Varanasi-Gorakhpur national highway near Naisara village under the Nandganj police station area on Thursday, police said.

District Magistrate Avinash Kumar and Superintendent of Police Dr Iraz Raja said that the victims have been identified as Annapurna (50) and Saraswati (70).

Three passengers sustained serious injuries, while 43 others suffered minor injuries in the accident, officials said.

According to the administration, the tourists from Maharashtra were on a nine-day trip and had visited Ayodhya for Ram Darshan. They were on their way to Varanasi to visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple when the accident occurred.

Locals and police personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital, where the two women were declared dead, officials said, adding that the injured are currently undergoing treatment.

The district magistrate and superintendent of police later visited the hospital along with Medical College Principal Dr Anand Mishra and directed doctors to ensure proper treatment for the injured.
