March 26, New Delhi – European Union (EU) lawmakers gave their approval, subject to certain conditions, to the EU's side of its trade agreement with the United States on Thursday.
The EU assembly voted in favor of the legislation with 417 votes to 154 and 71 abstentions, although with several additional safeguards.
Brussels and Washington had reached an agreement last summer, setting tariffs at 15 percent for most EU goods.
However, Trump's 2025 tariff blitz, including hefty levies on steel, aluminum, and car parts, prompted the 27-country bloc to cultivate trade ties around the world, and it has since signed agreements from South America to Australia and continues to pursue others.
