Trade Retaliation Threat as Spain Defends Iran Stance.webp

March 5, New Delhi: Spain has doubled down on its opposition to the United States using its bases against Iran, following threats of trade retaliation from U.S. President Donald Trump.

Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares stated that the country’s position on "bases, the war in the Middle East, and the bombing of Iran" remains unchanged. Spain has condemned the U.S. and Israeli bombings of Iran as reckless and illegal. Deputy Prime Minister Maria Jesus Montero said that Spain "will not be subservient" to another country.

Earlier on Wednesday, Karoline Leavitt, Press Secretary at the White House, stated that Spain has agreed to cooperate with the U.S. military, a day after President Trump threatened to cut trade with Madrid over its stance against the U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran.
