Barpeta prepares for five-day Doul Utsav celebrations

The renowned Doul Utsav of Barpeta, Assam, will commence tomorrow with a five-day program. One of the main attractions of Barpeta's Doul festival is the traditional Holi songs, which have filled the entire town with a festive atmosphere.

The air in Barpeta is now filled with the melodies of Holi, creating a lively and joyful environment. The Doul Utsav of Barpeta Satra will formally begin tomorrow evening with the traditional Gandhajatra procession.

Ahead of the main festival, the cultural organization Sanskritik Mancha, Barpeta, organized a colorful program titled "Barnil Basanta" today. More than forty groups representing different communities performed Holi songs, followed by a grand procession through the streets of Barpeta town.

The procession was inaugurated by Dr Babul Chandra Das, a senior Sattriya of the Barpeta Satra. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the message of unity among different communities, as shown by Srimanta Sankardeva, is being carried forward by Barpeta through this program to the entire country. He also added that after Magh Bihu, the people of Barpeta eagerly await the Doul Utsav, as it is the soul of the town.
