Mar 07, Srinagar: Authorities on Saturday suspended vehicular movement on the Bandipora–Gurez road after fresh snowfall at Razdan Top made the high-altitude pass unsafe for traffic, officials said.
The decision was taken as a precaution after snowfall created slippery conditions and reduced visibility along the route.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Gurez Mukhtar Ahmad said traffic on the road connecting Bandipora district with the remote Gurez Valley will remain suspended until further orders.
“Due to snowfall at Razdan Top and as a precautionary measure, movement on the Bandipora–Gurez road shall remain suspended till further orders,” Ahmad said.
Officials said snowfall at the pass led to poor visibility and icy road conditions, prompting authorities to halt vehicular movement to prevent accidents.
Razdan Top, located at an altitude of more than 11,000 feet, serves as the main road link between Gurez Valley and the rest of Kashmir through Bandipora district.
The road often remains affected during winter because of heavy snowfall and harsh weather conditions.
Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored and the road will be reopened once weather conditions improve and clearance operations are completed.
