March 31, New Delhi — A stampede broke out during prayers at the Maa Sheetla Temple in Bihar’s Nalanda district on Tuesday, resulting in at least eight deaths and several injuries among devotees.
The incident occurred due to a sudden surge in the crowd during worship at the temple premises. Authorities rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, where some are reportedly in critical condition, raising concerns that the death toll could increase further.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief over the tragedy and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured, along with prayers for their swift recovery.
