Chaibasa, March 13 A wild elephant killed a pregnant woman in the Goilkera area of Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district, a police officer said.

The incident occurred on Thursday night when the 30-year-old woman, Rani Boipai, came out of her home in Kuida village, suspecting the presence of an elephant in the area.

The elephant caught her with its trunk and trampled her to death, said Officer-in-Charge of the Goilkera police station, Sujit Kumar.

When asked whether the elephant was the same one that had claimed around 22 lives in January, the officer said that it was yet to be confirmed.

Senior forest department officials are investigating the matter, he added.
