Barabanki (UP), March 28 Two women on a motorcycle died, and a three-year-old girl suffered critical injuries when their vehicle was hit by a speeding truck here on Saturday, police said.

According to the police, Indrajit Verma, a resident of Ramdwari village in the Mahmudabad police station area of Sitapur district, was travelling by motorcycle with his wife Khushi Verma (18), his sister-in-law Pinky Devi (28), and his niece Bittu (3) to visit his ailing maternal aunt in Piprauli village, located within the Jahangirabad police station area in Barabanki district.

While travelling on the Fatehpur-Sihali road, the group stopped at the Iseyapur railway crossing as the gates were closed. As soon as the crossing opened and the motorcycle began to move forward, a speeding truck approaching from behind violently collided with the motorcycle. Upon impact, Khushi and Pinky Devi were thrown to the ground, while Indrajit and the young girl fell to the other side.

The truck continued, running over both women in the process. Bystanders attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver managed to escape. Both women died on the spot.

SHO of Kotwali police station Amit Singh said the injured girl was immediately admitted to the community health centre.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination, police said.

The truck has been impounded, and a search operation has been launched to apprehend the absconding driver, police said.
