
New Delhi, March 16 President Droupadi Murmu on Monday expressed her condolences over the loss of lives in the fire incident at a hospital in Odisha and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
As a mark of respect for those who died in the incident, the President and a group of Members of Parliament, who were hosted by her for breakfast here, observed a minute of silence.
At least ten patients were killed after a major fire erupted in an ICU at the Odisha government-run SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Monday morning.
"Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the tragic fire incident at a hospital in Cuttack, Odisha. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I wish a speedy recovery to those injured," Murmu said in a post on X.
In a separate post, the President's office said that Murmu hosted Members of Parliament from West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Odisha, Goa, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, and Lakshadweep for breakfast at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre.
"In a solemn gesture of solidarity, President Droupadi Murmu and Members of Parliament observed a minute of silence at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre, for the victims of the tragic fire incident at SCB Medical College, Cuttack, Odisha," it said.
