Trinamool Seeks Expanded Appeal Filing Options in West Bengal.webp

Kolkata, April 1 – The Trinamool Congress wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, Sujoy Paul, on Wednesday, requesting him to ensure that in cases of "logical discrepancy" in West Bengal that will be rejected during the ongoing judicial process, the "grounds of rejection" should be mentioned by the judicial officers involved in the process.

In an email communication sent to Justice Paul, the Trinamool Congress stated that if any "grounds of rejection" are provided by the judicial officers, they should be included in the supplementary list for the rejected candidates, so that the appellants are aware of the reasons for their rejection.

According to the Trinamool Congress, the rejected individuals should have a clear understanding of the reasons for their rejection, which they will need to present when they appeal to the Appellate Tribunals.

In the email communication, the Trinamool Congress also requested Justice Paul to initiate the publication of the notification for the commencement of offline appeals at the earliest.

Another request from the ruling party of the state is that, in addition to the offices of the district magistrates and sub-divisional officers, appeals may also be received at the office of the block development officers.

"Therefore, the Chief Justice may be pleased to consider that appeals filed physically may be received at the offices of the District Magistrate/Sub Divisional Officer/Block Development Officer. This will enable decentralized filing of appeals and ensure that the benefit of the large number of voters for whom it will be convenient to deposit the appeals at the block level," the email communication said.

At the same time, the Trinamool Congress also requested Justice Paul to consider that voters filing appeals may be allowed to be represented either on their own or through their authorized representatives, and to be given an opportunity of hearing before the Tribunal either physically or virtually, and to make provisions for communicating the hearing date to the appellants.
