Agartala, Apr 8 All preparations for Thursday's by-election to the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency in North Tripura have been completed to ensure free, fair, and peaceful polling, an official said.
Voting will be held from 7 am to 5 pm.
"We have completed all arrangements for holding the by-election freely, fairly, and peacefully. All polling parties have reached their respective booths with polling materials," returning officer Debjani Choudhury said on Wednesday.
She said elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure free, fair, and violence-free voting and appealed to the electors to cast their votes without any fear.
"In view of a possible cyclone, adequate sheds have been set up in all 55 polling booths. We will ensure basic minimum facilities for voters at the booths in accordance with EC guidelines," she said.
Choudhury said webcasting has been ensured in all booths, in addition to EVMs with VVPATs, to maintain total transparency during the voting process.
A total of 46,142 voters will decide the fate of six candidates in this prestigious by-election.
The by-election was necessitated following the death of Assembly speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen of the BJP in December last year.
