Tripura DGP Reports Lack of Central Forces for TTAADC Elections.webp

Agartala, April 5 – The Director General of Police (DGP) of Tripura, Anurag Dhankar, said on Sunday that the Centre has not sent additional central forces to the state for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.

Voting for the 28 seats of the tribal council will be held on April 12, and counting will take place on April 17.

"The state government had requested the Centre for additional forces to conduct the tribal council elections, but so far, no forces have arrived in the state," he told reporters in Dharmangar, in the North Tripura district.

The DGP held a meeting with the District Magistrates and SPs of North Tripura and Unakoti districts at Dharmanagar to review the security arrangements ahead of the by-elections to the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency (on April 9) and the voting for the tribal council.

The DGP said that elaborate security arrangements have been made for both the by-election in Dhamanagar and the elections to the tribal council.

"We have put in place an elaborate security plan for both elections. This arrangement will remain in place even after the counting process is completed to ensure peace," he said.

Earlier, a delegation from the Left Front, led by its convener, Manik Dey, met the State Election Commissioner (SEC), Manoj Kumar, and sought his intervention for the deployment of central paramilitary forces in all polling booths for free, fair, and transparent voting for the tribal council.
