Agartala, March 29 The elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) on April 12 will see a multi-party contest, with all major political parties fielding candidates.

The BJP and the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) have fielded candidates separately in all 28 seats of the council after negotiations on seat allocation failed, while the CPI (M) and Congress are contesting in 27 and 25 seats respectively.

The BJP's ally, the IPFT, has also fielded its nominees in 24 seats, setting the stage for a multi-party electoral battle. The total number of voters in the tribal council is 9,62,798.

A total of 173 candidates are contesting for the 28 seats in the TTAADC.

"A total of 173 candidates from the BJP, the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), the CPI(M), the Congress, and independent candidates are contesting for the 28 seats," state election commission secretary Anurag Sen told
