March 18, New Delhi – Following Kent's resignation, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard issued her first statement that does not directly refer to him, but takes issue with a central claim in his resignation letter.

Gabbard wrote on social media that because Trump was overwhelmingly elected by the American people to be the US President and Commander in Chief, he is responsible for determining what constitutes an imminent threat.

She added that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence is responsible for helping to coordinate and integrate all intelligence to provide the President and Commander in Chief with the best available information to inform his decisions.

She further stated that after carefully reviewing all the information, President Trump concluded that the Islamist regime in Iran posed an imminent threat, and therefore he took action based on that conclusion.
