Trusting Instincts: Miller Neutralizes Varun Chakravarthy.webp

Ahmedabad, February 23 David Miller's strategy against the dangerous Varun Chakravarthy, characterized by unwavering focus and trusting his instincts, proved successful as the South African batsmen successfully neutralized India's main weapon during their 76-run victory in a T20 World Cup Super Eights match.

Chakravarthy, who had a strong record against South Africa prior to this game, conceded 47 runs in four overs, with both Miller and Dewald Brevis demolishing his bowling.

"I think it's really about making sure that we are focused and prepared, so that if he bowls a bad ball, we can capitalize on it – so a bit more intent, and tonight, the line wasn't too much of a challenge," Miller explained after the game.

For Miller, it was essential to stick to his established process, which has been successful for him over the years.

"It's about focusing on the simple things and doing them well. As I said, I always need to be focused and prepared, and when the ball is bowled, I need to be in a good position, with my breathing and running, all those simple things – it may sound cliché, but they are the things that I rely on in the heat of the game."

Having played the game for a long time, the near-37-year-old Miller knows that one needs to seize the opportunity when it arises.

"It's taken some time. I have been playing the game for a while now, and it's about making sure that I stick to my process, especially during high-pressure moments in front of a large audience like tonight. And, in this game, you need to take risks, and as a cricketer, you might fail. So, it's about making sure that you are playing to your strengths," Miller quipped.

When asked what the biggest takeaway for Miller was, he issued a warning with a smile.

"That India is beatable. India is an incredible team, but for us in a tournament like this, it's about focusing on the simple things and making sure that we stay in our lane as players and get the job done.

"We are a mature team. Many of us have played together and have a lot of experience in cricket for South Africa, which helps us under pressure. So, I think it's just about staying focused and making sure that we get the job done."
