TVK Faces Scrutiny Hurdles in Tamil Nadu Elections.webp

Edappadi (Tamil Nadu), April 7 In a setback for Vijay-led TVK's attempt to contest all 234 assembly constituencies, the nomination papers of both the party's main and dummy candidates for the Edappadi assembly constituency were rejected during scrutiny on Tuesday, election officials said.

According to official sources, the application filed by TVK candidate T Arun Kumar was rejected by the Returning Officer (RO) after verification.

RO S Natarajan told

"We require 10 proposers. While one application had seven, the other had eight," he added.

This development comes amid a series of procedural hurdles faced by actor-politician Vijay's party in its electoral debut.

Edappadi is the stronghold of AIADMK General Secretary and former CM Edappadi K Palaniswami, who will be contesting from there. With TVK out of the race, the contest in Edappadi has effectively turned into a direct face-off between the AIADMK heavyweight and DMK's Kasi C.

The day also witnessed high drama in other constituencies during the scrutiny phase.

In Gobichettipalayam, the nomination of TVK candidate K A Sengottaiyan was briefly put on hold following objections raised by AIADMK agents, although it was later cleared.

In Villivakkam, another TVK candidate, Aadhav Arjuna, was also asked for clarifications before his application was accepted.

Tamil Nadu goes to the polls on April 23, with counting scheduled for May 4.
