Thanjavur (Tamil Nadu), March 4 Actor-politician Vijay is scheduled to address his TVK functionaries from eight Assembly constituencies at Ayyasamipatti in Thanjavur district on Wednesday.
The TVK founder, who left his Chennai residence early in the morning, arrived at the Tiruchirappalli airport and proceeded by road to address the meeting at the historically significant Thanjavur.
The district has eight Assembly constituencies, including one reserved for SC – Thiruvidaimarudur – and it is represented by Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister Govi Chezhian.
Out of the eight, the DMK won seven seats while the AIADMK managed to win from Orathanadu in the 2021 Assembly poll.
The other constituencies are: Kumbakonam, Papanasam, Thiruvaiyaru, Thanjavur, Pattukkottai, and Peravurani.
Thanjavur, once the capital of the medieval Chola empire, is a center of power and art. It is also the home of the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Brihadeeswarar temple. The district continues to maintain its agrarian elegance.
Party members arrived at the venue well in advance of the meeting and are eagerly awaiting their leader Vijay to criticize the ruling DMK.
The meeting is scheduled to take place in an open area covering ten acres of land at Ayyasamipatti near Sengipatti village, and around 4,900 functionaries from the district would participate, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has said.
The police have permitted the event, imposing 52 conditions and making QR code entry passes mandatory.
Stating that the meeting will be held between 11 am and 3 pm, the party said that only those with QR passes will be allowed to attend, as per the guidelines issued by the police.
"QR code admission passes have been issued only to selected party members. Pregnant women, children, school students, senior citizens, people with disabilities, and the physically challenged have not been issued the passes, and therefore, they should not attend for safety reasons," TVK general secretary N Anand appealed in a release ahead of the event.
Issuing instructions to party members, he said that cadres should strictly avoid following Vijay's campaign vehicle on two-wheelers or other types of vehicles.
"There will be a live feed of the event for others to watch. Also, basic facilities, including drinking water and medical facilities, have been arranged for the party members who will be attending the event," he informed.
A roof has been erected at the venue to provide shade for the members, he said, and added that party members and the public without valid passes will not be allowed.
