
Varanasi, April 1 A 22-year-old man was killed and another seriously injured after a lift reportedly fell down at a madrasa in Varanasi, police said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred late Tuesday night in the Bhelupur police station area, at a madrasa in the Rewri Talab area, where a program was being held in a community hall, and a large number of people had gathered.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Gaurav Kumar stated that the two young men were descending in the lift when it suddenly lost control and fell to the ground.
"Asif Adil (22) died on the spot, while the other youth, identified as Hasnain Raza, sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to the trauma center for treatment," he said.
The ACP informed that an investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the incident, including whether there was any negligence in the maintenance of the lift.
"Strict action will be taken against those found responsible," he added.
