
New Tehri, April 2 Two people were killed after a dump truck plunged into a deep gorge here, police said on Thursday.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Wednesday when the driver of the truck lost control, and the truck fell into a 100-meter-deep gorge.
Upon receiving information, police rushed to the scene and carried out rescue and relief operations. The truck driver, Suraj Rathod (44), a resident of Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh, and Gajendra Rangad (36), a resident of Rauniya village in Tehri, were seriously injured, police said.
The victims were rushed to a hospital where doctors declared them dead.
Prima facie, it appears that the incident happened due to brake failure. Further investigation is underway.
