UDF Campaign Gains Momentum as Election Approaches.webp

New Delhi, April 8 A day before Kerala goes to polls, on Wednesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi urged the people to vote for the United Democratic Front (UDF) to help elect a government with a vision to harness the state's talent and potential.

Gandhi said this election is about their future, as it is an ideological battle between the BJP and the Left Democratic Front (LDF), which has now partnered with each other.

Kerala will vote on April 9 to elect its 140-member state assembly. The counting of votes will take place on May 4.

"Kerala has the talent. Kerala has the potential. What Kerala needs is a government with the vision to harness both. Tomorrow, vote for that Kerala. Vote for a future of jobs, dignity, and opportunity. Vote for the UDF," the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha said in a post on X, using the hashtag "#UDF100".

In his video appeal to voters, Gandhi reiterated the guarantees made by the Congress-led alliance to the people of the state.

"Brothers and Sisters of Kerala, Namaskaram. This election is about your future. It's about the type of Kerala we want. As I have said many times in my speeches, this is an ideological battle against the BJP and the LDF, who have partnered with each other," he said in the video.

The former Congress president said the UDF government is committed to getting jobs for Kerala, fighting the brain drain, and banning drugs from the state.

"Women are the pride and strength of Kerala. For them, we are going to give free travel across the state, and every single young Keralite woman who is going to college is going to get Rs 1,000 in the bank account every month to support her," he said in his video message.

"We are pioneering a brand new healthcare scheme that is going to give Rs 25 lakh of healthcare cover to every single family of Kerala when you need it. We are going to give senior citizens a ministry for themselves that is going to look after their interests, and we are going to raise your pension to 3,000 rupees a month," he said.

Gandhi promised the youth jobs, interest-free loans up to Rs 5 lakh to those who want to start their own business.

"Support the UDF and support a great future for Kerala," he said.

The Congress is seeking to wrest back power in the state from the LDF after a gap of 10 years.

The tenure of the current assembly ends on May 23, 2026.
