New Delhi, February 27 The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) will launch a fellowship program for journalists starting from the next academic session, focusing on specialization in fields such as technology, economy, and strategy, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Friday.

Vaishnaw made this statement on the sidelines of the 57th convocation of the IIMC here.

"I would like to inform you that starting from the next academic session, we will be launching a fellowship program for journalists, so that they can get the opportunity to specialize in certain fields.

"Globally, journalists have the opportunity to specialize in areas such as technology, economy, strategy, and many other sectors, so that they can acquire that knowledge and have the research potential that they possess. Starting from the next academic session, we will be implementing this at IIMC," he said.

Vaishnaw, the Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Railways, and IT, stated that IIMC is one of the premier institutions in India and has a very high placement rate.

"IIMC students are highly sought after in the media world, and today's convocation program saw Vice President of India laying the foundation stone for the new academic block," he added.

Vaishnaw said that a completely new infrastructure is being constructed at IIMC's New Delhi campus.

"Furthermore, we have set up an incubator at IIMC. I interacted with startups. Very creative ideas are emerging. I am particularly impressed by the startup that is creating Indian folk tales and converting them into new technology-based storytelling," he said.

Earlier, during the event, the Minister stated that technology is being extensively used in the media, and in many areas, Artificial Intelligence is being employed.

He said that technology is being used in various ways, and under such circumstances, social media platforms provide platforms that any channel can operate with very limited resources.

"This is a major turning point in mass communication. And you are entering the field at this time, which will help build 'Developed India'. You are the 'Gen-Bharat', the Generation Bharat. You will build the developed nation by 2047, which is the nation's resolve."

"Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a big agenda to make the country developed by 2047. In that process, you all will have your roles, and that is why you are 'Gen-Bharat'," he said.
