The University of Jammu launched the third edition of its flagship multi-genre youth festival, Goonj 2026, during a press conference held on campus. The two-day festival will take place on February 27 and 28, 2026, bringing together students, faculty, and teaching departments on a vibrant platform of creativity and collaboration.
Addressing the media, Vice Chancellor Umesh Rai reflected on the journey of Goonj since its inception in 2024, stating that the initiative was envisioned to promote holistic student development and foster a deeper sense of belonging within the university community.
Emphasising that education must extend beyond classroom instruction, he said platforms like Goonj help students discover their potential through participation and collective engagement. Reaffirming the guiding theme, "Dissolving Boundaries, Evolving Education," he stressed the need for academic synergy and inter-departmental cooperation.
Approximately 600 students from teaching departments, off-site campuses, affiliated colleges, and neighboring universities have already registered, and participation is expected to further increase. The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, who is also the Chancellor of the University, will inaugurate the festival. The concluding ceremony will be attended by Prof. Bechan Lal as the Chief Guest.
Dean of Students Welfare, Prof. Prakash C. Antahal, said that this year's edition will feature an exhibition of rare and best-selling books and special stress management sessions to promote reading habits and support students' mental well-being.
