Hyderabad, April 7 The unresolved division of assets of the State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh following the state's bifurcation in 2014 recently led to a standoff between the two states, although the situation has since stabilized.
The main point of contention was Bus Bhavan, the RTC headquarters here, where Block A was allocated to Andhra Pradesh, while Block B was under the control of the Telangana RTC.
Based on a government directive, the commercial taxes department of Telangana sought to occupy the vacant floors of Block A a few days ago, official sources said on Tuesday.
However, officials from the Andhra RTC protested, as they had not been consulted.
Although commercial taxes officials attempted to take possession, they were unsuccessful, and officials from the APSRTC locked and sealed the premises, sources said.
Officials from APSRTC informed the higher-ups of the state government about the issue. Officials from the Andhra government wrote to their counterparts in Telangana, urging them to put the matter on hold.
So far, there has been no formal response from Telangana to the Andhra government's letter, sources added.
The division of assets and liabilities between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh following the state's bifurcation in 2014 is still pending and is also being heard in courts.
