Lucknow, April 11 Maximum temperatures in Uttar Pradesh are likely to exceed 40 degrees Celsius at several locations, including the state capital Lucknow, over the coming week as dry weather conditions persist, MeT officials said on Saturday.
Despite a notable rise of 6-8 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures over the past three days following dry weather conditions, temperatures across most parts of the state remain below normal levels, officials added.
The Meteorological Department noted that strong westerly winds, with speeds ranging from 30-40 km/h and gusts up to 50 km/h, are anticipated to weaken after April 12.
Without any active weather systems forecasted to impact the state over the next week, dry conditions are expected to persist, leading to a gradual increase in temperatures of 4-6 degrees Celsius. Consequently, maximum temperatures are likely to surpass the 40 degrees Celsius mark in many areas, including Lucknow.
On Saturday, the maximum temperature in Lucknow reached 35.3 degrees Celsius, which is 1.9 degrees below normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 18.4 degrees Celsius, 2.2 degrees below normal. No rainfall was recorded.
The forecast for Lucknow and surrounding areas indicates clear skies with strong winds during the daytime, with expected temperatures around 36 degrees Celsius (maximum) and 20 degrees Celsius (minimum).
Throughout the state, weather conditions remained dry, with no rainfall observed in major cities such as Prayagraj, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, and Agra.
Among key locations, Prayagraj and Jhansi recorded maximum temperatures of 37.6 degrees Celsius, while Varanasi reported 37.4 degrees Celsius and Banda 36.8 degrees Celsius. In contrast, relatively lower maximum temperatures were noted in Bareilly (33.5 degrees Celsius), Moradabad (33.2 degrees Celsius), and Muzaffarnagar (32.0 degrees Celsius).
