
Unnao (UP), March 5 A young man who was intoxicated created a disturbance in the town of Hadha in Uttar Pradesh, leading to locals throwing stones at the police who were sent to the area to control the situation, officials said on Thursday.
A police officer was injured, and the windshield of a police vehicle was damaged in the Unnao district on Wednesday evening, they said.
According to Circle Officer (Bighapur) Madhup Nath Mishra, the Achalganj police received information that a young man, identified as Ankit, was allegedly harassing people while intoxicated and causing disturbances in the area.
A police team reached the spot and tried to calm down the young man, but he reportedly got into an argument with the police officers, they said.
Officials said the situation escalated when some women present at the spot protested and began throwing bricks at the police, injuring a police officer and damaging the windshield of a police vehicle.
Later, additional police force brought the situation under control.
"The situation in the area is normal at present, and peace has been restored," the officer said, adding that efforts are underway to identify those involved in the incident with the help of video footage and local information.
He said strict legal action will be taken against those found involved in throwing stones and obstructing government work.
The police have also appealed to residents not to pay attention to rumors and to cooperate in maintaining law and order.
