New Delhi, March 25 Union Minister Pralhad Joshi criticized the Congress on Wednesday, stating that it suffered from a "lack of vision" during the UPA period, which prevented it from harnessing solar energy.
The Minister of New and Renewable Energy made the remarks during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, while highlighting the progress made by the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the solar energy sector.
His comments drew protests from Congress members.
In response to supplementary questions regarding solar projects in Maharashtra, Joshi stated that the renewable energy generation capacity has increased under the Modi government, and that more than 10,000 circuit kilometers of green energy corridors have been developed.
Taking aim at the Congress party and the previous UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government, the minister said that they were suffering from a "lack of vision" at that time, which prevented them from harnessing the energy of the sun.
"In their efforts to promote a particular leader, they failed to harness the energy of the sun," Joshi said, apparently referring to former Congress President and current Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.
The ruling BJP has been alleging that the Congress promotes dynastic politics.
