
Kokrajhar, March 16 Pramod Boro, president of the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), who was unopposed elected to the Rajya Sabha, is set to contest the Assam assembly elections from the Tamulpur constituency.
Releasing the first list of seven candidates on Monday evening, UPPL general secretary Raju Kumar Narzary said the party will contest in all 15 constituencies under the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
UPPL is a constituent of the NDA, along with the Bodoland People's Front (BPF), its main rival in the BTR.
Boro was the NDA candidate in the recently concluded Rajya Sabha polls for three seats from Assam, along with BJP's Jogendra Mohan and Terash Gowala, and all were unopposed.
Narzary said he will contest from Dotma, while the sitting Kokrajhar MLA, Lawrence Islary, has been renominated from the same seat.
Former All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) president, Dipen Boro, will be the party candidate for Udalguri, and three-time former MLA, Kamalsing Narzary, from Bijni.
Aninda Basumatary has been fielded from Gossaigaon, and Nereshon Boro from Bhergaon.
UPPL has seven MLAs in the 126-member assembly, with Handloom and Textile Minister, Urkhwa Gwra Brahma, in the state cabinet.
The Assam assembly elections will be held on April 9. Votes will be counted on May 4.
