New Delhi, March 14 A right-wing organization, along with the family of Tarun (26), who was killed in a clash in Delhi's Uttam Nagar earlier this month, demanded on Saturday that the investigation into the case be handed over to the CBI or an SIT.
The demands were raised during a press conference organized by Sarva Hindu Samaj, where members of the victim's family and local residents also sought strict punishment for those involved in the killing.
"So many people came and brutally beat my son for such a small matter. We want strict action against all of them and justice for my child," Tarun's mother said during the press conference.
Speakers at the conference alleged that Tarun was surrounded by a group of around 30 to 40 people and attacked with sticks, iron rods, swords, and stones, which led to his death.
One of the coordinators of the organization said the case should be transferred to the CBI, SIT, or the Crime Branch to ensure an impartial probe. "We demand that the investigation be conducted in a fair and transparent manner, and the case be handed over to an independent agency so that the truth comes out," the coordinator said.
The organization also demanded that all those involved in the killing be given the strictest punishment under the law so that the victim's family receives justice. It further called for CCTV footage and DVR recordings from the area, including nearby religious premises, to be seized and examined as part of the investigation.
The organization also demanded the constitution of a special inquiry committee to ensure that the investigation is conducted impartially. It further urged authorities to investigate allegations of illegal chemical-related activities in the locality and take legal action, including sealing of premises if violations are found.
The organization also said that individuals attempting to influence the investigation or judicial proceedings should be kept under strict surveillance and action should be taken against them if found guilty.
It further demanded that a special team be formed at the police station level to monitor the progress of the case and provide regular updates to the victim's family.
According to the police, Tarun was killed in a clash that broke out between his family and their neighbours in the JJ Colony area of Uttam Nagar on March 4 after water from a balloon thrown by a girl from Tarun's family during Holi celebrations splashed on a woman from the neighbouring family, triggering an argument that escalated into violence.
The police had said the two families had known each other for nearly five decades and had frequent disputes over issues such as parking and garbage disposal, among other things. During the clash, Tarun was allegedly attacked and he later succumbed to his injuries.
Six persons have been arrested and a minor apprehended in connection with the case, the police said. The accused have been identified as Umardeen (49), Jummadeen (36), Kamruddin (36), Mustaque (46), Muzzafar (25), Tahir (18) and a minor.
Provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act along with murder charges have been invoked in the FIR, police said, adding that investigation into the case is ongoing.
