Bhadohi (UP), April 9 An FIR has been registered against an unidentified person for allegedly posting offensive remarks about Hindu deities on social media in Bhadohi district, Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Thursday.
The case was filed on Wednesday at the Gopiganj police station, based on a complaint by Inspector Praveen Kumar Rai, in-charge of the district social media cell, against an unknown person operating a Facebook account named 'Gareeb Gautam Videos'.
A video containing offensive comments about Hindu deities and also showing alleged tampering with idols had been circulated through the said Facebook account, police said.
A user identified as '@ankur 46' had brought the matter to the notice of the district social media cell, following which a complaint was filed, police said.
Based on screenshots and other evidence, a case has been registered against the unidentified operator of the Facebook account on charges of disturbing communal harmony, they added.
Efforts are underway to trace the accused.
