Shahjahanpur (UP), March 10 Seventeen police officers, including a sub-inspector, have been suspended in the Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh for allegedly being absent from duty for an extended period without taking leave, a senior official said on Tuesday.
Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi said the action was taken after a review found that several personnel posted in the district had been missing from duty for extended periods without informing the department.
Among those suspended is a sub-inspector, who has been absent since 2023. The remaining 16 police officers had been away from duty for about a year, he said.
Dwivedi said he had directed officials to prepare a list of personnel who had been absent for a long time without permission.
Based on the report, 17 police officers were found to have remained absent without applying for leave or providing any explanation to the department, following which they were suspended for indiscipline, he added.
