
New Delhi, February 26 Uttar Pradesh Water Resources Minister Swatantra Dev Singh released a white paper on Thursday, prepared by "Yamuna Sansad", which highlights the society's greater role in cleaning the river.
A 500-km-long foot march, involving hundreds of women volunteers, aimed at raising awareness about cleaning the Yamuna, which began from Pachnada in Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun on January 28, concluded at Vasudev Ghat here on Thursday, according to Jal Saheli President Pushpa Kushwaha.
The minister, while releasing the white paper issued by "Yamuna Sansad", stated that the Uttar Pradesh government will conserve rainwater along the Yamuna floodplains.
He also said that the government will seek expert help to study the causes of pollution in the river.
During the march, the women volunteers walked 12-15 km every day, traversing through various districts of the state, including Agra and Mathura, through which the river flows, Ravi Shankar Tiwari, convener of Yamuna Sansad, said.
He also added that the white paper released by the minister, which recommends steps for cleaning the river, emphasizes a greater contribution from the society.
