Mirzapur (UP), March 31 Three members of a family were killed after their motorcycle was hit by a trailer truck here on Tuesday morning, police said.
The accident took place on the Chunar-Jamui road near Roshanhar village under the Ahraura police station area.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Aparna Rajat Kaushik said senior police officials rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident.
"Three people died in the incident and all of them belonged to the same family," she said.
The deceased were identified as Anurag (19), Devwati (28) and her son Anmol (5) -- all residents of Sonpur Ahirupur village.
According to police, the three were going to Ghatampur for a ritual when the speeding trailer truck hit them from behind near Roshanhar village, killing them on the spot. The bodies were badly mangled.
The truck driver fled the scene, leaving behind his vehicle.
Family members of the deceased and locals gathered at the spot.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the accident and extended his condolences to the bereaved family, according to an official statement issued in Lucknow.
The chief minister directed officials to reach the spot immediately and expedite relief operations.
