
New Tehri, April 10 A bus carrying 30 passengers from Uttarkashi to Rishikesh overturned and came to a stop after getting stuck on a tree here, police said.
Three people were injured in the incident, including the bus driver and the conductor. All injured have been admitted to the Tehri District Hospital, they said.
According to police, the incident occurred in the Dabri area along the Rishikesh-Gangotri National Highway, around 3:30 pm.
Rajendra Kumar, the Sub-Inspector in charge of the Kandikhal police outpost, stated that during the accident, the bus overturned and fell approximately five meters off the road. However, a major tragedy was averted as it became wedged against a tree.
Upon receiving information about the incident, locals, police personnel, and teams from the Disaster Management Department rushed to the scene. Using gas cutters to cut through the seats, they safely extracted the passengers, Kumar said.
Those injured in the accident were identified as the bus driver, Dhan Singh (48), a resident of Dehradun; the conductor, Manoj (35), a resident of Chamoli; and Sonia (25), a resident of Jammu.
District Disaster Management Officer Brijesh Bhatt informed that the injured are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital, while the remaining passengers have been transported to their respective destinations using disaster management vehicles and other available means.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
