
Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw outlined India’s priorities for Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing Engineering Technology. Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, where he chaired a strategic meeting of industry leaders, global academics, policymakers, and technology experts, Mr. Vaishnaw stated that artificial intelligence is a fundamental pillar in India's journey towards becoming a developed nation.
He noted that by integrating AI across Manufacturing Engineering Technology, India can enhance productivity, strengthen competitiveness, and unlock new opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship. Mr. Vaishnaw emphasized that the government's focus is on building an inclusive AI ecosystem that empowers both large enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), while also preparing India's workforce for the future.
The Minister also launched the concept for a White Paper on “AI for Manufacturing, Engineering Technology (AI-MET)”. The White Paper Concept presents a strategic framework for integrating AI across manufacturing and related value chains to drive productivity, sustainability, and global competitiveness. It outlines a process for creating coordinated pathways for industry, academia, and policymakers to integrate AI across India's Manufacturing Engineering Technology (MET) ecosystem.
