New Delhi, March 18 A Samajwadi Party MP in the Lok Sabha raised the issue of the controversial song "Sarke Chunar" from Sanjay Dutt's film "KD The Devil" on Wednesday, and the government stated that it had already been banned.
Anand Bhadoria raised the issue during Question Hour and said that unchecked content on OTT platforms and social media was a bad influence.
In his response, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the song had already been banned.
"A ban has been imposed on the song. The framers of the Constitution have placed certain reasonable restrictions, and we should function within those limits. Freedom of speech cannot be absolute; it must be in the context of society and culture," Vaishnaw said.
"Given the rapid spread of information through digital media today, the government is ready to take whatever necessary steps to protect society, especially children, women, and marginalized groups," he added.
The song, featuring Dutt and Nora Fatehi, was released on YouTube two days ago and quickly went viral due to its shock value and lyrics that almost describe a sexual act. Since then, it has been the subject of outrage on social media and elsewhere.
