Puducherry, March 27 Puducherry Congress chief V Vaithilingam said on Friday that action was being initiated against five party workers who filed nominations in constituencies allocated to the DMK for the April 9 assembly polls here.
Vaithilingam said that the Congress had been allocated 16 seats in the agreement finalized with the DMK, a constituent of the INDIA bloc, in Puducherry.
The DMK, in turn, was allocated 14 seats, out of which one seat was given to the VCK in the upcoming polls.
The Congress leader said that all 16 official party candidates had filed their nominations in their respective constituencies.
However, six rebel candidates, belonging to the Congress, had filed papers in constituencies where the DMK had fielded its candidates, as per the seat-sharing agreement.
While one of the six rebels withdrew the nomination filed in the Nellithope constituency on March 26, the last day to withdraw papers, the remaining five did not.
Vaithilingam said that action would be taken against them soon.
"No one from the Congress should have any contact with them," he said.
The five rebel candidates included former minister M O H F Shah Jahan, who filed nomination in the Kalapet constituency where the DMK's nominee is Senthil alias Ramesh.
Vaithilingam, who is currently a Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Puducherry, is among the officially approved candidates and has filed the papers seeking election from the Thattanchavady seat.
Vaithilingam declined to comment when asked what action would be taken against the rebel candidates.
Shahjahan filed the papers for the Kalapet constituency here.
He told the media on Thursday that he would not withdraw the nomination as he wanted to develop Kalapet in all sectors.
P M L Kalyanasundaram of the BJP is the incumbent MLA of Kalapet. He is now seeking reelection from the constituency.
