Puducherry, March 23 Puducherry sitting Congress MP, V Vaithilingam, filed his nomination on Monday for the Thattanchavady constituency here, setting the stage for a direct confrontation with incumbent Chief Minister and AINRC leader N Rangasamy.
A two-time CM (from 1991 to 1996 and 2008 to 2011) and current Lok Sabha MP, Vaithilingam, filed his nomination today.
His entry as a sitting MP signals the Congress-DMK alliance's intent to regain control of the constituency.
Rangasamy has been representing the Thattanchavady constituency, which has been his "stronghold" since his first victory in 1990.
The contest in the Thattanchavady constituency represents a rare face-off between an incumbent Chief Minister and a former Chief Minister, making it the most closely watched seat in the union territory.
The deadline for filing nominations was today. Nominations will be scrutinized on Tuesday, while the last day to withdraw nominations is March 26.
The assembly elections for the union territory will be held on April 9.
