Thane, March 13 A 23-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly throwing a stone at the Mumbai-Sainagar Shirdi Vande Bharat Express near the Thakurli station in Thane district, a police official said.
The accused, Sunny Kamble, a resident of Pune, is a drug addict, the official added.
"Although no one was injured in the incident, a window of the premium train sustained significant damage. Fragments of glass hit some passengers, causing chaos in the coach. After the incident, the train's passengers saw Kamble taking selfies. They alerted the Central Railway control room, after which a team from the Railway Protection Force and railway police rushed to the scene," he said.
A search was conducted along the tracks between Patripool and Thakurli, leading to Kamble's arrest from a building nearby, the official said.
"Upon seeing the police, he attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and revealed that he is addicted to ganja. Kamble has been booked under sections 153 (endangering the safety of persons travelling by railway by willful act) and 147 (entering railway premises without permission) of the Railways Act," he said.
Police are investigating whether Kamble, who is currently in Aadharwadi Jail in Kalyan, was involved in a recent incident near Thakurli where a thief attacked a passenger on the Sinhagad Express to steal an expensive mobile phone, the official said.
