Hamirpur, March 11 Tourism Ambassador to the Government of Himachal Pradesh, Vanshika Parmar, emphasized the need for a policy-driven approach to strengthen women's leadership and economic participation in the state.
Parmar, who was also Miss Earth India 2022, was the chief guest at a district-level event organized in Hamirpur to mark International Women's Day, according to a statement.
She said, "Empowerment cannot remain just a slogan. It must become a system that ensures every girl has access to education, opportunity, and leadership."
The event was organized by the Women and Child Development Department of the district administration. Addressing Anganwadi workers, community representatives, and students at the event, Parmar said that women's empowerment initiatives must increasingly focus on education, entrepreneurship, and institutional support systems that enable long-term social and economic participation.
Parmar is from Tunhi village in the Nadaun area of Hamirpur district, which she describes as a region known for its strong tradition of public service and military heritage.
Her father, Group Captain S.K. Parmar, is still serving in the Indian Air Force, while her grandfathers, Colonel Nanak Chand Chauhan and Colonel Shakti Chand Parmar, served as officers in the Indian Army before retirement.
Her mother, Rittu Parmar, a former beauty pageant title holder who later rose to become Head of Operations in a multinational organization, is now involved in humanitarian initiatives and social work.
Parmar said that her family has long supported philanthropic efforts, including assistance to widow homes, orphanages, and educational support initiatives for economically disadvantaged girls.
