Varanasi, April 6 A video showing a dog attacking the carcass of a cow inside a municipal cow shelter in the Sarnath area here surfaced on social media on Monday, prompting authorities to order action against those responsible.
Taking the incident seriously, the municipal commissioner directed officials to initiate action against the concerned officials and strengthen security arrangements at the facility.
Municipal Corporation Public Relations Officer Sandeep Srivastava said the incident occurred at a cow shelter in Edhe village under the Sarnath police station area.
He described the video as "unfortunate" and said the cow had died after a fight with another animal at the cow shelter. A dog entered the premises through the gate and was seen attacking the carcass, he added.
Srivastava said that after the matter came to light, the municipal commissioner ordered strict action, including penalizing responsible staff and enhancing security measures at the cow shelter.
