Palghar, April 2 The four-year-old boy, who was brutally assaulted by an autorickshaw driver in Vasai town of Maharashtra's Palghar earlier this week, is out of danger and is recovering at a hospital, police said on Thursday.

The accused in the case, Sandeep Pawar, was produced before a local court on Thursday, which extended his police custody until April 4, they said.

The incident took place on April 30, in which the autorickshaw driver lifted the boy by his legs and slammed him to the ground before hitting his head on an iron rod following an argument with the minor's father. The crime was captured on a CCTV camera.

The minor was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in the Mira Road area in the district as he sustained severe head injuries.

"The boy is now recovering at the hospital and is out of danger. The accused was produced before a magistrate's court, which extended his police custody until Saturday," senior inspector Balkrishna Ghadigaonkar of the Vasai police station said.

Meanwhile, local MLA Sneha Dubey Pandit demanded the strictest possible action against the accused.

She discussed the issue with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who assured that the perpetrator will face severe punishment, a release issued by her office said.
