New Delhi, April 11 Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar paid tributes to social reformer Jyotirao Phule on his birth anniversary, remembering his contribution to women's education and the eradication of untouchability.

Kumar said Phule's efforts for the upliftment of oppressed communities and women will remain a source of inspiration for the people of the country.

Phule was born on April 11, 1827, in Maharashtra and died on November 28, 1890.

"On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, a great social reformer committed to the empowerment of the marginalised, women's education, and the eradication of untouchability, the grateful nation offers its respectful homage," Kumar said in a post on X.

"Your revolutionary efforts for the upliftment of the oppressed and deprived sections of society and women will always remain a source of inspiration for the people of the country," he said.
