Vice President of India addresses Kashmir University convocation, lauds women achievers, innovation, inclusive growth, sustainability, and urges youth to lead change responsibly

February 26, Srinagar: The Vice President of India today graced the 21st Convocation Ceremony of the University of Kashmir as the Chief Guest and delivered an inspiring address to the graduating students, faculty, and dignitaries.

Expressing his delight at the progress in gender equality and empowerment, the Vice President highlighted the prominent leadership roles held by women, including the Hon’ble Minister of Education of J&K and the Vice-Chancellor of the University. He noted with particular pleasure that the majority of gold medals at the convocation were awarded to women achievers, underscoring their outstanding contributions to academia and society.

Congratulating the graduating students, the Vice President described them as ambassadors of change, urging them to embrace their role in shaping a progressive future. He emphasized that the world is undergoing rapid transformation, and the year 2026 bears little resemblance to the world of just five years ago. In this dynamic era, adaptability and continuous learning are essential for success.

The Vice President lauded India’s swift march towards development, referencing the recent AI Impact Summit held in Delhi as a testament to the nation’s growing stature in innovation and technology. He stressed that progress must be purposeful and directed towards inclusive growth.

Praising the entrepreneurial ecosystem fostered under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Vice President called for embracing innovations rooted in India’s rich traditions, such as Swadeshi innovations. He observed that the Western world is increasingly looking to India for groundbreaking ideas and solutions.

Turning to regional development, the Vice President highlighted the government plans for expansion of Srinagar Airport, which will significantly boost tourism in Kashmir. He stressed that tourism must remain in harmony with ecological and environmental concerns to ensure sustainable growth. Expressing optimism, he remarked that Srinagar should aspire to receive the Swachh Bharat award in the coming year through collective efforts in cleanliness and civic pride.

The Vice President described mega development projects not merely as infrastructure initiatives but as powerful symbols of social transformation that uplift communities and foster unity.

He urged everyone to take pride in their own sentiments while respecting those of others, without degrading any faith or belief. Advocating for a drug-free society, he appealed to the students to stay away from narcotics, noting that every religion promotes a life of purity and well-being.

The Vice President also cautioned against the perils of social media addiction, advising the young graduates to allocate their time wisely and prioritize meaningful pursuits over excessive digital engagement.

The convocation ceremony was presided over by the Lieutenant Governor, Chancellor of the University, with the Chief Minister in attendance as Guest of Honour.

The Vice President’s address resonated strongly with the audience, inspiring the new graduates to contribute positively to India’s vision of a developed and inclusive nation.
