Chandigarh, March 15 A day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized the Congress on various issues at a rally in Moga, the party's state unit chief, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, questioned the "integrity" of those former party members who were on the BJP stage at that time.
He said that before joining the BJP, all these leaders were part of the same Congress that Shah had criticized in their presence.
The criticism was directed not only at these former Congress members, but also at other Congress leaders since they were also part of the Congress," Warring said in a statement here. "There were more Congress leaders who shared the stage with Shah than his own BJP people."
He pointed out that right from Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar to Preneet Kaur, Manpreet Singh Badal, Ravneet Singh Bittu, Rana Sodhi and others, who occupied the stage during Shah's rally, were with the Congress earlier and "enjoyed power and glory" in the party, while the traditional BJP leaders were completely sidelined.
Jakhar was previously the president of the Punjab Congress before he switched to the BJP.
"If the Congress was as bad as Shah made everyone believe, then how come the BJP was full of people from the Congress?" he asked, while adding that this only revealed the "double standards" of the party.
The Punjab Congress president challenged the BJP to ensure that all those leaders who shared the stage with Shah will remain with them until the time of elections, as they also realize where the party stands in Punjab.
"Withdraw their security personnel of CISF staff today and see how long they will remain in the BJP," Warring said.
On Saturday, Shah addressed a rally in Moga in which he attacked the AAP government and the Congress over several issues.
Attacking the Congress, Shah accused it of orchestrating an attack on Akal Takht.
"Terrorism came during the Congress regime, and there was a fight between Hindus and Sikhs," he said. "Punjab's development, Punjab's peace is not possible without Hindu-Sikh unity, and this can be possible under Modi's leadership," he said.
