March 20, New Delhi — In Washington, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi stated on Friday that her country is ready to support United States efforts to promote peace and prosperity globally.

Following talks with US President Donald Trump, the two leaders agreed to maintain close coordination to ensure the safe transit of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route.

President Trump highlighted a recent trade agreement between the two countries, describing it as one of the largest ever, and said it would expand cooperation in sectors such as energy, semiconductors, shipbuilding, and pharmaceuticals. He also welcomed Japan's efforts to strengthen its security and defense capabilities, including increased procurement of US defense equipment.

Prime Minister Takaichi, meanwhile, reiterated that Japan remains open to dialogue with China and is managing bilateral relations in a calm manner. She expressed hope that US-China ties would contribute to regional security and help ensure stability in global supply chains.

The talks underscored deepening US-Japan cooperation amid evolving geopolitical and economic challenges in the region.
