New Delhi, April 11 A five-year-old child was killed, and another was injured after a balcony of an old house collapsed in the Wazirpur area of northwest Delhi on Saturday, police said.

According to police, a PCR call was received at Bharat Nagar police station regarding the collapse of a jhugg (informal settlement) at JJ Colony.

A police team rushed to the spot and shifted two children to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, where one child, identified as Divyanshu (5), was declared dead, while the other, Rinki (10), is undergoing treatment.

Crime Team and FSL officials inspected the spot and collected evidence, police said, adding that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and investigation is in progress.

Locals said the incident occurred around 11 am when some children were playing in a lane near the structure, and the balcony came crashing down.

"The children were playing in the gali (narrow street) near the old house when the balcony suddenly collapsed with a loud noise. Two children were trapped under the debris, causing panic. Hearing their screams, some of us rushed to help and pulled the children out," an eyewitness said.
