Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Winds Ahead of Summer.webp

Amaravati, April 6 The IMD on Monday warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds in isolated areas over Coastal Andhra, Yanam, and Rayalaseema in the coming days, ahead of the summer.

The IMD said an upper-level cyclonic circulation is persisting over the west-central Bay of Bengal, off the coast of south Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and is influencing the prevailing weather conditions in the state.

"Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely in isolated areas over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema, with strong winds reaching speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour in some areas," the India Meteorological Department said in a press release.

Another upper-level cyclonic circulation over Rayalaseema and its surrounding areas has shifted to Telangana and adjoining areas at lower levels, it added.

A trough running from the cyclonic circulation over Telangana to the Gulf of Mannar across Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu is further influencing weather patterns.

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) said light to moderate rains with thunderstorms and lightning are likely in isolated areas in several north coastal districts over the next two days.

Districts expected to witness such conditions include Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Manyam, Alluri, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, and West Godavari.

Isolated thunderstorms and light rains are also likely in Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Chittoor, and Tirupati districts, the authority added.

The APSDMA advised farmers and cattle herders not to take shelter under trees during thunderstorms and to remain alert to lightning strikes.

The authority also noted rising temperatures in some parts of the state, with maximum temperatures reaching 42 degrees Celsius at Terannapalli in Anantapur district, 41.9 degrees Celsius at Rajupalem in Kadapa district, and 40.7 degrees Celsius at Nandanamarella in Markapur district.

Other areas recording high temperatures included Perusomala in Nandyal (40.6 degrees Celsius), Varikuntapadu in Nellore (40.3 degrees Celsius), Gopidinne in Annamayya (40.1 degrees Celsius), and Thovi in Kurnool district (40 degrees Celsius).
