
New Delhi, March 19 Fresh snowfall and rain in the mountains north of Delhi brought down the temperature in the national capital on Thursday, halting the heatwave that had reached a record high of 36 degrees Celsius earlier in the month.
Images from Shimla showed a group of tourists surprised by the sudden chill brought by the rain. People were seen wearing shawls and hoodies on Mall Road as the rain subsided.
"When we checked the internet, it predicted rain, and it did. The forecast was accurate. We had prepared accordingly and brought warmer clothes. So, we are enjoying the weather," said a tourist to
"We are enjoying a lot. We did not expect it to rain so heavily, that's why I am wearing my summer clothes. If I had known, I would have worn a jacket," she said.
Meanwhile, Delhi experienced breezy weather due to brief showers and drizzle.
Parts of the city received up to 12.5 mm of rainfall, keeping the minimum temperature down to 17.6 degrees Celsius.
"The weather system is expected to intensify over central Pakistan and adjoining parts of Punjab and Haryana from Thursday, leading to further rainfall over the next two days," Mahesh Palawat, a weather expert, told
