Chandigarh, March 18 Light rains affected some areas in Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday, leading to a drop in maximum temperatures by a few degrees below normal.

According to a report from the Meteorological Department here, Amritsar and Pathankot received 0.5 mm and 4.5 mm of rain, respectively.

Rainfall was also observed in Patiala.

In Haryana, Hisar, Narnaul, Bhiwani, and Charkhi Dadri received 1.9 mm, 4 mm, 0.5 mm, and 2 mm, respectively.

The maximum temperature in Amritsar was recorded at 19.4 degrees Celsius, eight degrees below normal.

Ludhiana and Patiala recorded maximum temperatures of 26.2 and 27.7 degrees Celsius, respectively, which were two degrees below normal.

In neighboring Haryana, the maximum temperatures in Ambala, Hisar, Karnal, and Narnaul were recorded at 29.4, 30.8, 30.4, and 28.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded a maximum temperature of 27.8 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal.
