
Shimla, March 30 The higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh received light snowfall until Tuesday morning, while intermittent rain affected a few areas in the middle and lower hills.
The Shimla meteorological office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds with wind speeds of 40-50 kilometers per hour on Friday and Saturday in isolated areas across 10 of the 12 districts, excluding Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti.
It has also predicted rainfall across the state until next Monday (April 6) as a new western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from Thursday.
Among the areas that experienced snowfall, Gondla received 4 cm of snow, while Keylong recorded 2 cm of snow.
As rain affected the middle and lower hills, Kumarsein in Shimla district received the most rain at 39 mm, followed by Sarahan (38.7 mm), Dharamshala (27.1 mm), Kangra (18.2 mm), Nichar (15 mm), Manali (11 mm), Jot (10.8 mm), and Keylong and Gohar (10 mm each).
Shimla, Kangra, Sundernagar, Jot, Palampur, and Bhuntar experienced thunderstorms and lightning, while Kangra and Shilaroo experienced hailstorms.
Strong winds ranging from 46 to 61 kilometers per hour were recorded in Tabo and Seobagh, according to the meteorological office.
There was no significant change in the minimum and maximum temperatures.
Keylong in the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti was the coldest at night, with a low of 0.1 degrees Celsius, while Neri in Hamirpur was the hottest during the day, recording a high of 30.6 degrees Celsius.
During the pre-monsoon season from March 1 to 31, Himachal Pradesh received 99.6 mm of rain, compared to the normal rainfall of 113.4 mm, resulting in a 12 per cent deficit.
